A workspace designed around real life.
The Barnes Commons is a new neighbourhood coworking and professional community hub for people balancing ambitious work, flexible schedules, businesses, family life, and the realities of modern London living.
Launching soon in Barnes.
What is The Commons?
Most workspaces were built for a different era — one shaped around long commutes, fixed schedules, and lives organised almost entirely around work.
But for many of us, life looks different now.
We don’t always need to be in central London every day, yet working permanently from home can feel isolating and cafés only work for so long before the noise, lack of privacy, and endless laptop shuffling starts to wear thin.
The Barnes Commons is being built as an alternative to that:
a calm, professional, neighbourhood workspace for people balancing ambitious work with real life.
Part coworking space, part local community hub, and part members club, The Commons combines quiet desks, meeting rooms, Zoom booths, excellent coffee, flexible memberships, and a relaxed atmosphere designed around modern hybrid working rather than rigid office culture.
More than anything, it’s intended to feel genuinely useful:
a place where work fits more naturally around life — and nobody feels guilty for leaving at 3:15pm for school pickup.
About Us
We’re Monica and Amy — Barnes residents of more than 15 years, business owners, parents, and founders.
We both run our own businesses while raising our 10-year-old son here in Barnes, so we seriously understand the balancing act modern professional life has become.
Over the years, we’ve watched more and more local people quietly reshape how they work: building flexible careers, working remotely, consulting, launching businesses, or trying to create healthier ways of working closer to home.
At the same time, we felt there was something missing locally: a professional space that felt calm, intelligent, welcoming, and genuinely part of the neighbourhood. Not overly corporate. Not performative. Not another noisy café pretending to be an office (although we love our Barnes cafes!!).
Just a really good place to work near home — with thoughtful people, professional energy, flexibility, and a sense of familiarity.
The Barnes Commons is our attempt to build that: a neighbourhood workspace designed around real life, modern work, and the kind of local professional community many of us have been looking for without quite finding.
